WHAT IS HAKOMI?
The Hakomi Method is based on the lifelong work of Ron Kurtz, the originator
of Hakomi, who continues to develop and refine the work, teach internationally
and share his wisdom with students (www.hakomi.com). Hakomi is a method of
assisted self-study and emotional healing based on loving presence, mindfulness,
and the modifications of underlying ideas and rules that drive behavior.
Through focused attention on present experience in all its forms (thoughts,
feelings, body sensations, and memories) we can become aware of the deep
habits through which we live life, and the beliefs in which patterns of behavior
are rooted. Such beliefs shape and color our experience of life, and often
cause unnecessary suffering. Once brought to awareness, new ideas and experiences
are possible and we can learn to live with more freedom and happiness.
Under the guidance of Ron Kurtz and Donna Martin, VHEN’s training model
is a multi-level learning experience that welcomes new, continuing and advanced
students. Each training session presents Hakomi holistically... the essence
of the whole method being present in each session, with participants learning
at their own rate. The “level” of each participant depends upon previous
training and experience, as well as the person’s own natural aptitude and
affinity for the method.
WHO WOULD BENEFIT FROM HAKOMI TRAINING?
This training would benefit anyone who has an interest in understanding themselves
and others and in working with present mind-body experience. It is suitable
for people new to Hakomi and students learning at more advanced levels of
the Method. We welcome anyone in the healing professions - psychotherapists,
allopathic and Chinese physicians, homeopaths, body centered practitioners
and anyone in care-giving situations will find within this method techniques
to enhance private practice. And we also welcome individuals who are interested
in the journey of personal and spiritual growth and who have a desire to
bring themselves into more harmony in their relationships and their lives.
CEU PARTICIPANTS
Continuing Education credit available from the Canadian
Counselling and Psychotherapy Association for four Vancouver Hakomi Training modules.
(Enter "Vancouver" into the Search field with this link)
For professionals
who are looking for continuing education credits, our training provides
pre-approved credits with the CCPA and will provide documentation for CEU
credit approval for other organizations. In three days of training, professionals
will have an opportunity to experience Hakomi and to learn some simple tools
to enhance their practices and to prevent burnout.
LEVELS OF TRAINING:
A diploma of completion in the basic Hakomi method requires a minimum of
thirty days.
The advanced level training requires twelve days of instruction.
Certification as a Hakomi therapist involves basic training, advanced
training, coaching with a certified trainer, and then demonstration of competency
live or via videotaped sessions to at least two trainers. This usually takes
60-70 days of study. Until this certification is completed, the person may
call him or herself an advanced student of Hakomi.
COST: $140
per day (including HST)
